[12-05-2024] San Diego County, CA – One Dead in Hit-and-Run Accident in Point Loma
Point Loma, San Diego County – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle early Thursday morning in Point Loma.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision occurred around 5 a.m. at Nimitz Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard.
Witnesses reported that the pedestrian, described as a man in his twenties who has not yet been identified, was crossing Nimitz Boulevard when a dark BMW hit him. This vehicle was allegedly racing another car, described as a white Mustang.
After the accident, both vehicles fled the scene.
Police have closed the southbound lanes of Nimitz Boulevard between West Point Loma Boulevard and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard as investigations continue.
In the hours following the collision, U.S. Naval Base Police located the abandoned BMW on Canon Street, south of Del Mar Avenue. The vehicle showed significant front-end damage consistent with being involved in the collision.
Police are actively searching for the other vehicle and driver involved in the incident. This remains an ongoing death investigation, with authorities awaiting the arrival of the coroner to process the scene further.
